G. Subramanian, popularly known as Subra, draws inspiration from childhood memories of theatrical costumes and masks. The character in this artwork is Ganesha, the elephant-headed god in Indian mythology. The mustard colored textured background compliments the bright colorful image. The child-like portrayal showcases the power of innocence and divinity. Multi-layered collages of printed images and texts culled by Subra from popular magazines, adds a contemporary touch to the work. Painting with a palette of rich colors, his works are packed with soaring energy and ecstasy for permanent acceptance by the audience. He has participated in numerous one-man shows, group shows & exhibitions besides art camps. He is the recipient of several prestigious awards that include All India Fine Arts & Crafts Society; Tamilnadu State Lalithkala Akademi award; Saudia Malwan Award 1996, 1998 and 2003. His works find place in prestigious collections like Carre D'Art Nimes, France; South Side Gallery, Edinburgh - U.K.; Karnataka Lalitkala Akademi to mention a few.
