KALAA Artspace Pvt. Ltd. was incorporated under the laws of India in 2007. It is based out of the city of Bangalore in India and is promoted by Joe and Anita Thomas and Shim John. Between us we have 3 decades of work experience managing successful companies at senior levels as well as growing and nurturing startups. What brings us together is our taste for good art and well designed crafts. While Art and crafts have always had immense appeal as objects from which we derive aesthetic pleasure; of late, Art especially, has become another investment option. While this brings greater recognition and reward for talented artists and discerning buyers; it diminishes the original purpose of Art – which is to give pleasure.

KALAA has been conceived as an art selling portal where art lovers can browse thru hundreds of artworks across art categories – paintings, prints, photographic art, sculpture, etc. using criteria that you would use naturally while selecting art – colour, theme, style, how it would look on my wall, size, and of course price. The focus is not just on the popularity of the artist and price, though these too are available criteria for selection.

The focus is on contemporary art and younger artists mostly from India, though we will introduce works of several overseas artists. Being a pure online play, works are shipped from artist only on order which means they are fresh and recent and costs of storage and display are minimized. We aim to keep all costs and margins to the minimum while providing the highest levels of service, safety and security of transactions.

We also aim to provide unbiased and un-opinionated descriptions of artworks and artists with a focus on explaining the artists point of view and his/her inspiration rather than that of “critics”.

We believe in the power of the community and we will provide ample opportunities for interacting with artists and other art lovers on KALAA. We also welcome feedback and suggestions for improving any aspect of our endeavour.
